Founded in 1949, Northrop & Johnson has been a reputable yachting brand renowned for their discerning luxury vessels. In addition to their yacht sales, the company also takes pride in charter to management and marketing of their crafts. Its impressive record of yacht sales, growing charter fleet and global expansion are a testament to the honesty, integrity and steadfast promise to deliver the best to its clientele.
In fact, as early as after World War II, its founders Jim Northrop and George Johnson were focused on forming a partnership to provide quality yacht brokerage service to their close circle of yachting companions on Long Island Sound. From that time, they were quickly known as the “Gentlemen Brokers” of Northrop & Johnson within the tight-knit yachting community of New York, thereby creating the foundation on which the company’s sterling reputation was formed.
Its business longevity continues till this day and with six decades of firm dedication to meet its clients’ yachting needs, Northrop & Johnson clearly commands one of the world’s foremost authority on the sale, purchase, charter, management and new construction of luxury superyachts. As Asia’s yachting needs expand and beckon, Northrop & Johnson is priming its business by welcoming Martin Holmes as General Manager of Asia.
Having been surrounded by boats much of his life, Martin considers this relevance very meaningful now. Hailing from the UK, he has a wide range of yachting experience and spent several years sailing in the Mediterranean and Australia before heading to Asia where he joined Lee Marine shortly after its inception in 1997. During his 20 years in Asia, he has been involved in hundreds of yacht sales, both brokerage and new construction, and has witnessed the steady growth of the yachting industry in Asia firsthand. In 2018, Martin joined Northrop & Johnson as general manager of the Asia operation, which includes offices in Thailand and Hong Kong.
Martin enjoys introducing clients to yachting and is known for his personable style and willingness to go the extra mile for his clients. “When you take time to understand the clients wants and needs it becomes a personal mission to serve them fully and correctly,” he says. “After all, a successful on-water lifestyle relies on many factors that must be considered and managed, and we are here to turn a client’s dream into reality in the most effective way possible.”
